Biographical Information

Rick and Louise (Cleveland) met at Seattle Pacific University. Rick was working toward a professional career in music. During his senior year, he also felt called into ministry and living the simple lifestyle of Wesley. He gave up his prestigious musician position and headed for a life in Christian service.

He and Louise married and went to Asbury Seminary, intending to prepare to be missionaries. While at Asbury, they 'were introduced to the needs of inner city people in the U.S. and decided that was where God would have them serve.

Rick and Louise pastored for about 9 years in the inner city of Detroit, and for 8 years in the Watts District of Los Angeles, CA. They have adapted culturally to their setting each time. While living in this high crime/drugs/violent environment, their call to live frugally was advantageous to their ministry. At times, the whole family has slept in one bedroom and the boys not been able to play outside because of the dangers nearby.

Feeling it was time for a change in focus of ministry and for the safety of the family, the Clydes decided to apply for pastorates nearer to family (grandparents live in Spring Arbor, MI). Their sons, Luke (15) and Peter, (10) have had the influence of the Christian school they attended as well as the lifestyle their parents exemplified and have learned early in life a heart for evangelism and servant-hood.
